Brahmaputra flood ravages Tea Estates

“The state of Assam is frequently ravaged by the fury of the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries causing untold human misery and devastation of indescribable nature. It is a perennial problem with which people of Assam have been living ever since time immemorial. It is a repeat of loss of life, damage of crop, property and loss of cattle and wildlife. Small Tea Growers are no exception to this immense loss caused by the flood and its after effect.

Lattakoojan Tea Estate procures green tea leaf from different areas of Golaghat and almost all the areas are under the threat of severe flood. Flood situation is very grim in two of our main catchment areas namely Komarbandha and Bokolai and its adjoining areas. Village roads are submerged under water and collection and transportation of green leaf becomes difficult. Incessant rain makes it difficult for the pluckers to work and results in high absenteeism.”
